Playing In November

I snuck up on Clara when I volunteered at her Thanksgiving Feast at school.
She was happy to see me and gave me a big hug.
The kids ate a LOT of crap.  It was supposed to be that they brought their favorite treat, but, I think most parents just cleaned out their pantries.  I brought cut up fruit - shocker.
We worked on manners, saying please and thank you, for the feast.
Post sugar high.  Note: processed mac n cheese (microwaved), cheetos, string cheese...lovely.
I loved this - she makes me laugh.
Josh had a really ugly dangling tooth that FINALLY came out this month.
One of my cool Webelos got his Arrow of Light, 20er, and became our Denner
We went to Thanksgiving Point with The Birds (my friends from BYU)
I think I have 27 different pictures of this cave
Probably as many of the Design-a-Dino
And even more of my kids playing in this sand

Joshua David Totten gets Baptized

There was a big event this past weekend for my little family.  My son made the choice to be baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  This is an essential ordinance and a commandment of God.  I know that most mothers feel this way when their children make big decisions and they are the right decisions.  I have felt a great deal of love and appreciation for my husband for holding the Priesthood so that he was able to baptize and confirm our son.  I wasn't able to be baptized by my dad, but was fortunate to have wonderful Priesthood holders around me growing up.  I was baptized by my Uncle Terry, and confirmed a member of the Church by my grandfather.

As I watched so many of our family members and friends participate in the confirmation circle for my son, I was overwhelmed with gratitude.  Later I was sitting next to my "brother from another mother", Ben, and he said, "You are very loved."  Still later my bestie said, "It was a powerful image seeing all of those men who hold the Priesthood in the confirmation circle.  Those will be wonderful examples for him." Then I said a small prayer of gratitude that because both Ben and my bestie happened to move to Utah over the past six months, they were both able to be at the baptism.  Then I said another small prayer of gratitude because my niece (who grew up in North Dakota), who gave the talk on the Holy Ghost, was able to be there because she is going to school at BYU.  I gave the talk on the Holy Ghost at her baptism when she was 8.

There are huge moments in life to be grateful for and there are small moments to be grateful for, and yesterday included both.  To have all of my parents there was a blessing.  To have my wonderful friend Ginny and her family here from Colorado was a blessing.  They aren't members of our Church, but understood the significance for our family, and they love us so they came.  To have shared the baptism with two families in our congregation was a blessing.  Their sons are good friends with our son, and we love them.  I commented today to the father of one of our boys (who is our home teacher) that I felt like the Spirit was much stronger with the three boys getting baptized on the same day than if they had had individual programs.

It's easy to accuse me of being sentimental, because I am.  By small and simple means do great things come to pass.  I am grateful for a Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, who know me, love me, and know what the small things mean to me.

Halloween 2011

The Five Musketeers - ready to hit the streets for candy
 Batman and...Witch...again.
 A Supergirl flanked by Marios
 Clara sliding down the stairs
Ben brought over a big movie screen to set up in the yard to show movies to the trick-or-treaters.  It was so fun!  We watched Charlie Brown and The Nightmare Before Christmas.  Definitely a tradition we want to keep as long as the weather is decent on Halloween night.

 Where do we go first?!

We had a great Halloween with lots of kids raiding our candy bowl.  The kids only went around the block before they saw the movie screen and decided to hang out instead of trick or treat.  This made for far less candy (yay!) this year.  I love our neighborhood all year round, but it is especially fun to know most of the kids who knock on your door.

Pre-Halloween-Eve

Halloween is now spread out over 37 days and 45 events.  Friday we went trick-or-treating at Dave's work.  Saturday we had a trunk-or-treat.  Sunday we had a dinner at my aunt and uncle's house with finger foods.  The kids wore their costumes to school today for a Halloween Parade, and then there is the big event tonight.  These are pictures of the events so far.  We will see if I manage to get pictures taken tonight!

At Dave's work, they had a spook alley and a row of cubes converted into a Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Oz alley.  So cute!  There were hundreds of kids and it was chaos.  We stuck to one floor mostly for trick-or-treating, but it was fun to finally see Dave's work.  We took Kate along with us because she wanted to go, but the Romingers headed out to Arizona for the weekend so they missed out on the fun.
